For two days, leading experts, researchers and practitioners in the areas of
education, vocational settings, public health, medicine and social & cultural aspects
from over 30 countries will present and share their research and practical experiences in relation to appearance.
The conference will also be open to non-COST members.
The conference is free, but attendees need to pay for travel, accommodation and subsistence themselves.
In order to participate, you need to send a registration mail to: martin.persson@uwe.ac.uk

Professor Ron Strauss is a sociologist of medicine and a dentist, with doctoral training in both from the University of Pennsylvania. He has served on the UNC Dental (Dental Ecology) and Medical School (Social medicine) faculty, the UNC Craniofacial Center team, and is currently the Executive Vice Provost of the University of North Carolina at UNC-Chapel Hill. His research focus has been on the social impacts of chronic health problems with specific interests on stigma, craniofacial anomalies, and HIV/AIDS. He has long worked on global health issues. |

Dr Zali Yager is a senior lecturer in the College of Education at Victoria University. Her research expertise is in the school-based promotion of positive body image. She teaches health and physical education units. |

Dr Clare Chambers is University Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Cambridge. She works on contemporary political philosophy, with particular focus on feminism, liberalism, and theories of social construction. She is the author of numerous chapters and articles, books on topics such as autonomy, choice, and consent; the body, appearance norms, and cosmetic surgery; culture, religion, and social practices; theories of justice |

Elena Rossini is an Italian filmmaker, writer and artist best known for the documentary film The Illusionists. In October 2014, the Council for the United States and Italy selected Rossini for the Young Leaders program.Rossini is the founder and editor-in-chief of No Country for Young Women, a website that aims to provide "positive role models" for young girls.In 2014, Rossini co-founded Gender Gap Grader with Elian Carsenat – a platform empowering companies and organizations with innovative tools to measure the gender gap. |

Dr Anna G. Faustova is a Certified Clinical Psychologist. She graduated from Ryazan State Medical University in 2011 and now continuing her education at the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2014-2015 academic year, Anna Faustova has been a Fulbright Visiting Student Researcher at Brandeis University (Waltham, MA, USA). Her Ph.D. thesis is about the dynamics of self-attitude in people with visible differences. |
