Current job title:
University of Malta
Prior to my appointment at the Department of Youth and Community Studies at the University of Malta, I had been a teacher for 15 years. My doctoral research was conducted in a higher educational institution and it examined how femininities are constructed and negotiated within students’ cultures. Particularly it focused on how the pressure to ‘look good’ is perceived, reinforced, resisted and reproduced and how its intensity varies according to the girls’ scripts of femininity. I am also involved in the setting up of the National Youth Policy, which will come into effect this year.
Reason for joining:
Iím very much interested in sharing knowledge and expertise within this working group and gain from multi-disciplinary approaches within this field on a European dimension.
Current research interest in relation to the COST Action:
My research interests comprise gender regimes and how these intersect with sexuality and body image constructs within educational institutions.
