I am a clinical psychologist and for most of my career I have worked with children and adolescents with eating and body image problems, both within treatment and prevention settings. My current position is within the public health sector where I manage mental health promotion and prevention at the Directorate of Health in Iceland. About 8 years ago, I started the Body Respect movement in Iceland, which focuses on promoting body satisfaction and respect for body diversity through various forms of social activism and advocacy. I am the co-founder and president of the Icelandic Association for Body Respect and the Icelandic Eating Disorders Association. I am also a long time member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and serve as Co-Chair of the Health At Every Size (HAES) SIG.
