Short autobiography:

My main fields of research and clinical expertise are obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders (in particular obsessive-compulsive disorder [OCD] and body dysmorphic disorder [BDD]) and sexual disorders. I have a 30 years experience of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) of such disorders and for 13 years I was the chair of a unity of treatment of resistant OCD and BDD in a psychiatric clinic; my research is aimed to the cognitive components of such disorders in aetiology, maintenance and treatment and to the study of the efficacy of high intensity CBT treatments of such disorders (also in comorbidity with personality disorders).

Reason for joining: To enhance our knowledge about distal and proximal factors pertaining to the origin and maintenance of BDD and body image disorders in relation to ameliorating our possibilities of their psychotherapeutic treatment in cooperation with medical professionals.
Current research interest in relation to the COST Action: Appearance aspects in relation to psychosocial and public health issues in medical settings: a) Training of health professionals in psychosocial aspects (in particular aesthetic surgeons, frequently and dangerously referred to by persons with BDD). b) Psychotherapeutic aspects from a CBT perspective. c) BDD and body image disorders (e.g. bigorexia)
