I’ve been developing research in the new media as well as digital humanities domain. I’m also completing her PhD: her subject is utopia in a perspective of a semiotic analysis of discourse. I’ve collaborated with several research centers and networks in the areas of social and political sciences, mainly in projects about discourse and it’s relation with reality. Also prepare students to analyze communication and marketing impact in several domains of society. Interest on body and appearance begun with a research work in old newspapers (articles and advertising), specially concerning the change of physical appearance for individuals from minority communities.
Reason for joining:
Interest in the way body is communicated and the evolution about body perception in media and public opinion. Also interested in the way marketing, innovation and business interferes in the way body and appearance are communicated.
Current research interest in relation to the COST Action:
a) Body and appearance communication; b) Political awareness about body appearance, health and the way information is spread (contacts with the Health Commission of Portuguese Parliament – Dr. Elza Pais) to organize a conference on the subject and to propose a public policy in this area.
